tall, with long limbs and a slim frame, integra's figure is largely hidden by her choice of dress: masculine suits and trench coats. her skin is tawny shade, inherited from the mother she never really knew. her hair is worn long, well past her waist, and is naturally colored a lovely blonde shade. her eyes are a deep, cobalt blue alive with wit. she wears a pair of round-framed glasses and, after the battle of london, a black eye patch over her destroyed left eye. integra's fashion choices are largely practical but also serve to put her on equal footing with her peers in the convention of twelve. her coats give her shoulders a more broad appearance and suits conceal her feminine curves. she generally wears just enough make-up to appear professional. she does wear her hair down, perhaps the only outward display of femininity she chooses. integra is often seen smoking fine cigarillos, a slim type of cigar.

her casual dress remains masculine with high-waisted trousers and loose button-up blouses. if she must endure the formalities of a gala she wears black and jewel-toned gowns that are modest in cut.

a calm and collected individual, integra handles most situations that would induce terror and fear in the average person with a controlled ease. in most cases, even genuine surprise and happiness, her reactions to stimuli are subdued. her conduct is very business-like, however she isn't incapable of a bit of humor, good-natured or not. despite appearing at times detached and cold, she cares deeply for the lives of her men.

integra is fearless, has been since she was a child, and has carried this trait with her into adulthood. though not as overt as alucard, there is an intimidating and domineering air about her; even as a young girl she could make sir shelby m. penwood bend to her will when he shows hesitance. this fearlessness does not stop at humans either, as she challenges an entire squad of nazi vampires after decapitating one of their number. shortly after, alexander anderson looms over her, but she does not even show the slightest bit of fear to him, a man arguably as strong as her servant alucard and with no reason not to kill her.

integra is very patriotic and incredibly loyal to the crown. she is responsible, usually reasonable, however her calm demeanor can give way to bouts of rage at times. one notable example is when alucard questions her orders, which she responds to by telling him fervently and angrily that they are what they are and that she is not to be questioned. integra, though serious and stoic, isn't hard-hearted or unfeeling. When alucard slaughters innocent humans cooperating with tubalcain alhambra, she asks with a noticeable amount of horror what her servant did to those men. at times, she seems to forget who and what he is. there is genuine pain present when she gives the order for alucard to kill a traitorous, vampirized walter, a man she'd practically grown up with. later, alucard himself begins to fade after ingesting schrödinger, and she is visibly upset.

born into the prestigious and mysterious hellsing family, integra has been sheltered and educated all her life to take the place of her father as bureau director of the hellsing organisation. integra's mother was a woman from India, she does not appear in her flashbacks, suggesting either that integra never met the woman or that she died when integra was very young. when she was 12 years old, integra's father passed away and entrusted her with their family's mission to lead the royal protestant knights and protect england against the vampires.

immediately after arthur’s death, richard hellsing, jealous of integra for inheriting the family headship, attempted to hunt her down and kill her. integra escaped her traitorous uncle and managed to reach a dungeon in the mansion's sublevels, where her father had said she would find her salvation. hoping to find a knight, she stumbled across an old, dried-out corpse instead. Richard found her, cornered her, and shot her in her shoulder, spilling her blood across the floor of the room. the corpse, who ended up being a vampire whom arthur had imprisoned 20 years earlier, awoke and licked up integra's blood. rejuvenated, it proceeded to kill her persecutors, thus saving her. richard desperately attempted to kill integra one last time, but the vampire blocked his bullet. picking up a gun, integra shot and killed her uncle, becoming the last descendent of the hellsing bloodline. the vampire, whose name was alucard, became her loyal servant.

not long after, integra was knighted and introduced to vice admiral sir shelby m. penwood, a former friend of her father. upon seeing Integra for the first time, sir penwood said that she was far too young to fulfill her duty. he revised his opinion during the actual storyline, in which he admitted that it was an honor to have met and served with her in his farewell message, prior to his death. his sacrifice was just one of the many examples that helped solidify integra's resolution about humanity's worth and continue her duty.

integra as a child was more timid than she is now, yet a very willful girl, being brought up with a commanding presence that even alucard respects. when alucard became her servant, she grew more confident and comfortable with her position as head of the hellsing family and a knight of the round table. much like seras victoria, integra experiences a coming of age, gaining experience and losing her remaining innocence as events unfold and the war begins, transforming into a leader with an iron resolution who does not flinch at the first signs of danger and who gains wisdom through dire losses and betrayals. the major recognizes her change from a "beautiful fräulein" (he goes so far as to apologize for calling her this) to the most dangerous enemy who stands in the way of his plans, calling her forth into his zeppelin. inside, she and seras slaughter the remaining forces and then approached the captain, integra leaves seras to go fight the werewolf while she goes for the major.

when integra reaches the major, she attempts to attack him but is stopped by a glass dome. there, she witnesses alucard's disappearance when he unknowingly drinks the blood of schrödinger. after defeating the captain, seras arrives and uses her cannon to break the dome. in the process, she ends up blowing off half of the major, revealing that he is a cyborg. integra approaches the major and guns him down, but a shot from the major hits integra in the eye. integra and seras then escape.
